چکیده

Prostaglandins and thromboxane are ubiquitous compounds and play important roles in cardiovascular homeostasis, inflammation, reproduction, respiration, mitogenesis and gene transcription and so on. These actions of prostanoids are presumed to be mediated by plasma membrane receptors belonging to the superfamily of G protein-coupled receptors. However, several lines of evidence suggest prostanoids may also act at the nuclear level. Nuclei contain cyclooxygenases and other intermediates required for prostanoid synthesis and receptor-mediated responses. This review focuses closely on various signal transduction cascades that exist in the nuclear membranes, including the presence of other nuclear G protein-coupled receptor, and discusses the discovery of functional nuclear prostaglandin E2 receptor. These data add new dimensions to the functions and signaling mediated by prostaglandin receptors.

Effect of sodium hydrosulfide on mRNA expression of prostaglandin E2 receptors in response to mucosal acidification and distention-induced gastric acid secretion in rats

Objective(s): Prostaglandins have been shown to mediate the gastro-protective effect of sodium hydrosulfide (NaHS) but effect of NaHS on mRNA expression of prostaglandin E2 receptors (EP1, 3-4; EPs) has not been investigated. Therefore, this study designed to evaluate the effect of NaHS on mRNA expression of EPs receptors in response to mucosal acidification and distention-induced gastric acid ...

A prostaglandin J2 metabolite binds peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ and promotes adipocyte differentiation

Prostaglandins (PGs) of the J2 series form in vivo and exert effects on a variety of biological processes. While most of PGs mediate their effects through G protein-coupled receptors, the mechanism of action for the J2 series of PGs remains unclear. Here, we report the PGJ2 and its derivatives are efficacious activators of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors alpha and gamma (PPAR alpha ...

Endothelial apoptosis.

We read with interest the excellent review by Stefanec (March 2000),1 which summarized the knowledge about endothelial apoptosis. Table 2 of his article represented the proand antiapoptotic stimuli for endothelial cells. Herein, we would like to add activating a topic receptor as a proapoptotic stimulus for its cells in the Table. Activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR)-...

Prostaglandin receptors EP1-4 as a potential marker for clinical outcome in urothelial bladder cancer.

Prostaglandins, especially prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), and COX-2 play an important role in carcinogenesis of many tumors including bladder cancer (BCA). The PGE2 receptors EP1-4 regulate tumor cell growth, invasion and migration in different tumor entities but EP expression in BCA remains to be determined. In the present study we examined the expression of EP1-4 in non-muscle invasive bladder canc...

Inhibition of lipopolysaccharide-induced gene expression by liver X receptor ligands in macrophages involves interference with early growth response factor 1.

Liver X receptors (LXRs) are nuclear receptors that act as ligand-dependent transcription factors forming permissive heterodimers with retinoid X receptors (RXRs). In this study we aimed to assess the effect of LXR/RXR activation on the transcriptional induction of pro-inflammatory genes including cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and microsomal prostaglandin E2 synthase-1 (mPGES-1) in activated macroph...
